Somewhat unfair. I’d be more than willing to pay Judy Peaches more if I could do so as a reward for doing a better than average job nurturing the intellects and talents of our best shot at keeping America great. Likewise, I’d be more than happy to pay her more if I could easily fire her for doing a poor job of nurturing those intellects and talents. You know?
Hmm. The “If only we could fire bad teachers and everything would be all right” meme is particularly irksome, because the reality that is that there are 3.7 million primary and secondary school teachers in the U.S. If even 10 percent of them are these “bad” teachers, that means we somehow have to find nearly 400,000 new, better teachers to take their place.
A more practical approach, I think, is to focus on how to make the teachers we have better.
In which I fall in love with markcoatney.
I have always and will always support teachers in this country, especially public school teachers. My mom has been teaching in a public school for over 30 years, and she has poured her heart and health into teaching her kids. She deserves better. All teachers do.
